Replaying flight data
Who is this article for?
Uses working with the map.
No special access or permissions are required.
The map view brings together live and historical flight activity, community noise data, and local weather conditions in a single interactive display. Aircraft are shown using type-specific icons so you can distinguish commercial jets, helicopters, propeller aircraft, and military traffic at a glance, while colour-coded noise overlays highlight areas experiencing community or aircraft-related noise events. A weather panel provides current conditions, including wind, temperature, pressure, and visibility, for context alongside the flight data.
Beyond monitoring current activity, the map view lets you step back in time. Using the Historical mode and timeline control, you can replay flight traffic from any date and time, making it a useful tool for reviewing past events, investigating specific noise complaints, or understanding traffic patterns over a given period.
This article covers two core tasks: setting a specific date and time to replay historical flight data, and using the timeline to step forwards or backwards through recorded traffic once it's loaded.
Setting date and time
You can replay data from a specific point.
To do this:
- Go to the Flights tab.
- Click on the Historical button.
- Set your replay data and time.
- Click Set.
Using the timeline
The timeline at the bottom of the map allows you to step through recorded flight traffic. This timeline handle acts as a cursor and you can drag the timeline forward or backwards as needed.
